Uefa president Aleksander Čeferin has branded Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward and Juventus president Andrea Agnelli “snakes” for their role in the proposed European Super League.

Plans for the hugely controversial Super League were announced in the early hours of Monday morning, with Manchester United and Juventus being two of the 12 clubs initially throwing their weight behind the project.

And speaking at Uefa’s congress on Monday, Čeferin launched a scathing attack on the executives of those two clubs in particular.

“If I start with Ed Woodward, he called me last Thursday evening saying he’s very satisfied with and fully supports the Champions League reforms and the only thing he want to talk about was Financial Fair Play, when obviously he had already signed something else.

“Andrea Agnelli is the biggest disappointment of all, I’ve never seen a person that would lie so many times, so persistently as he did. It’s unbelievable.

“We didn’t know we had snakes so close to us, now we know.”

Uefa officially announced plans for the revamped Champions League at Monday’s congress, and Čeferin insists they will plough on without the 12 breakaway clubs if necessary.

“We will do it with them or without them,” he added.
