Group E looks wide open after another thrilling contest in Dusseldorf
Ukraine kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of Euro 2024 alive with a dramatic turnaround to stun Slovakia in Dusseldorf. Roman Yaremchuk came off the bench to net a stylish late winner for Serhiy Rebrov’s side on Friday afternoon, after Mykola Shaparenko had swept home an Oleksandr Zinchenko cross to cancel out another early effort from Ivan Schranz - his second of the tournament.
The 2-1 comeback win for Ukraine blows things wide open in Group E, with Slovakia having missed the chance to book their place in the last-16 of the European Championship for only the second time as an independent nation with a game to spare. There is the potential for all four teams in the group to go into the final round of fixtures with a win each, with favourites Belgium looking to bounce back from their shock opening loss to Slovakia when they battle a Romania side who thrashed Ukraine in Cologne on Saturday night.
Ukraine then face the Belgians in Stuttgart on Wednesday evening, while at the same time Slovakia and Romania go head to head in Frankfurt. We could yet be set for a thrilling conclusion to a group that on paper did not look to promise too many fireworks before the tournament. Follow Slovakia vs Ukraine reaction live below!
