Arne Slot has admitted he is proud of his record-breaking start as Liverpool manager but said trophies are his focus at Anfield.

Liverpool won 1-0 at RB Leipzig on Wednesday night to extend their impressive start under the new head coach.

Slot has won 11 of his first 12 games in all competitions, the first time Liverpool have ever done so. He is also the first manager to lead the Reds to six straight away wins at the start of a campaign and his side have conceded only five goals.

The Dutchman said his team can be ‘proud’ of their performances this season, though said trophies are the real target as Liverpool look to continue improving under his management.

“Yeah, I think I said it before with the other – not that we had so many records but we did a few – records that I should, we should, be proud because so many great teams have worn this shirt, so many great managers have been at this club,” Slot said at his post-match press conference.

“So, if you can achieve something that hasn’t been achieved before it is almost impossible at a big club like this and to achieve it is always nice.

“But I said it also about the other records: records are nice but there is something else that is more nice than records and we both know what I mean I think – that’s trophies.”

Slot pleased with Nunez performance

Darwin Nunez scored the winner in Leipzig and Slot said he was delighted for the forward, who has bounced back from a tough start to the season with impressive performances against Chelsea and the Bundesliga side.

“I’m always happy when we score a goal and I’m not that much into it who scores it. It is always good to see all of our players scoring goals and I think in the lead-up to the goal, Cody [Gakpo] and Mo [Salah] were just as important in the goal as Darwin was.

“What I liked from Darwin was that he was also strong, comfortable on the ball, kept the ball a lot, fighting if he had to defend, so he made it a really difficult game for the two centre-backs of Leipzig. And then for him scoring, I think that is always nice for a striker to be on the scoresheet.”
