Arne Slot has said Liverpool still have a job to do as the Reds edge closer to the Premier League title.
Liverpool will be crowned Premier League champions if the club avoid defeat to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. The Merseysiders are on the verge of just their second title of the Premier League era and the first to be won with fans in the stadium since 1990.
Slot is well aware of the magnitude of this weekend’s game but is fully focused on securing the result needed.
“It’s a big responsibility. We are aware that the last time this club won the league was during the Covid time. So everybody is looking forward to Sunday,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.
“But we know there’s still a job to do. We need at least one point. That is what we know and, hopefully, what our fans know as well when they come to the stadium that they support us in the best possible way as they have done all season, but also be aware of the fact that we still need a point.
“It’s a nice game to look forward to but also a responsibility we have for Sunday.”
Slot was asked how he feels about guiding Liverpool to the brink of the title but said his sole focus is on Spurs this weekend – and not the potential celebrations.
“I get these questions, then it comes to your mind, of course. But that’s the last thing you think about as a manager at this point of time. The only thing I think about is hopefully all the players are available and prepare them.
“I know how hard it was to win against a team [Leicester City] that was close to relegation. It was hard to get the win over the line. I am not getting carried away at all.
“We’ve faced Tottenham already three times, I know how hard it is to beat them for us. That is where my main focus is on.”
