Liverpool boss Arne Slot played down the club’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season after his side went top of the table.
The Reds narrowly beat Wolves at Molineux on Saturday thanks to a header from Ibrahima Konate and a Mo Salah penalty either side of Rayan Ait Nouri’s equaliser.
The result saw Liverpool leapfrog Manchester City in the standings after the champions drew 1-1 with Newcastle United earlier in the day. They are on 15 points, one ahead of second-placed City and Arsenal in third.
The Merseyside outfit have won five of their opening six top-flight matches under the new manager, and boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just twice so far.
Liverpool’s form and position has fans dreaming of a second Premier League title win in five years, but Slot is not getting carried away just yet.
“I always try to be realistic and Jurgen’s work has been incredible everybody knows this,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.
“Two years ago was the last time they played in the Champions League and they finished fifth.
“Now we have to prove that we can compete in the Champions League and the Premier League.”
He added: “Pre-season helped. The players started to believe. We have a lot to prove when we come across the top sides. It’s good that we are where we are at the moment.”
Liverpool are on the road again next week when they travel to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park for the early kickoff on Saturday.
