Relegation-threatened Śląsk Wrocław made the decision to change the hands on the steering wheel on Friday, with Jacek Magiera returning to the hot-seat in place of Serbian Ivan Djurdjević.

News of Djurdjević’s dismissal had been brewing for weeks; and with Śląsk languishing in the Ekstraklasa relegation zone, win-less in the last seven games, the decision was announced on Friday morning. Djurdjević had only taken charge of the Wójskowi in the summer, and leaves having only collected 31 points from 28 league games.

The decision to return to Jacek Magiera had been mentioned in recent weeks, and perhaps comes as a surprise given he was dismissed from the position himself only thirteen months ago. His role could be short-lived, though, and likely depending on his ability to steer Śląsk away from the drop-zone – so far, his contract has only been confirmed until the end of the season.

“We know very well how good coaching skills Jacek Magiera has, He has had the opportunity to work with most of the players in our current squad, he knows our club very well, and the conversations we had only confirmed that he will approach this task with great determination.” Piotr Waśniewski, president Śląsk Wrocław

Magiera took charge of Śląsk’s training session on Friday, and will lead the team for the first time in Sunday’s relegation clash at Górnik Zabrze.
