Skye Stout scored on her Kilmarnock debut after receiving online abuse after joining the club
Skye Stout scored a stunning free-kick on her Kilmarnock debut, just days after the 16-year-old received online abuse after joining the Scottish club.
The football world rallied around Stout after she was subjected to abhorrent comments after her unveiling by Kilmarnock last week.
Kilmarnock took down the post confirming her signing, due to the abuse over her skin condition.
However, the 16-year-old reacted to the online trolls in the perfect way in her debut for the club against St Johnstone on Sunday.
Skye Stout scored a stunning goal on her Kilmarnock debut, as they beat St Johnstone 6-2 in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2.
The 16-year-old showed just why Kilmarnock decided to bring her to the club, scoring a free-kick from the edge of the box to make it 4-0.
Stout also assisted Kilmarnock’s third goal, playing an excellent through ball for teammate Cara Gray.
She played 62 minutes before she was replaced by Kaitlyn Ganavan, receiving a warm reception from the Kilmarnock crowd as she walked off the pitch.
Kilmarnock Women sit top of the standings after the opening day of the season, and their victory over St Johnstone showed that Stout could have a big part to play, as they look to get promoted to the top flight.
Skye Stout received plenty of support from the football world after she received online abuse over her appearance after signing for Kilmarnock.
The Scottish club took down the post announcing her arrival, due to the abuse over her skin condition.
The abuse was brought to light by football organisation Team Grassroots, who asked people to send their love and support to Stout.
Chelsea Women wrote in response: “The Skye is the limit – congratulations and good luck for the season.”
French side Lyon also commented: “Congrats on your first pro contract Skye and good luck.”
Former men’s Liverpool star and TV pundit Jamie Carragher said: “Good luck Skye.”
Former Kilmarnock striker Ally McCoist sent a heartwarming video message, in which he said: “I played down there for three years and it was three of the best years of my footballing life and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It’s a fantastic club with great people.
“You do well Skye, enjoy your football and hopefully one of these days I’ll get a chance to come and see you play. Good luck.”
Former Scottish First Minister Hamza Yusef also voiced his support, posting: “Skye Stout has just signed for Kilmarnock. At 16 she has already achieved more than her trolls ever will.
“Imagine being a grown man abusing a 16-year-old? What a sad, pathetic, unhappy life these trolls have.”
Yusef was replaced as First Minister by John Swinney, who recently admitted that Scottish women’s football has been ‘neglected’ and that there is a strong case for more government funding.
