A report from England has claimed that Manchester United are optimistic that they will win the race with AC Milan to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

As far as we know, the path to Zirkzee remains gridlocked for Milan. The management have already communicated to Bologna their intent to pay the €40m clause present in his contract and already have a verbal agreement over personal terms with the player.

What’s holding back the deal is the request of his agent Kia Joorabchian on commissions. The first request for €15m was rejected and it will be necessary to negotiate with him before the deal can get over the line.

According to the latest from Sky Sports UK, Manchester United ‘remain in positive talks with Zirkzee’s representatives’ over his potential arrival at Old Trafford and there is now ‘cautious optimism that a deal can be done’.

United are prepared to pay the Dutchman’s €40m (£33.8m) release clause, they confirm, but there is still competition to beat. Sky add that Arsenal, Milan and Juventus are among the other clubs interested in the 23-year-old, who is at the European Championship in Germany.

While there is no mention of what the Red Devils’ stance might be on the commission requests, the financial power of Premier League clubs mean they might be more inclined to pay it.
