Sky: The Milan streak that Christian Pulisic’s goal against Lecce snapped

Christian Pulisic’s goal against Lecce on Saturday snapped a streak for AC Milan, and one that is not exactly positive when it comes to shooting.

Milan opened the scoring after less than five minutes at San Siro when Samuel Chukwueze drove down the right touchline and into the box, taking on a few Lecce players in the process, before finding Pulisic on the edge of the box. The American then dispatched a lovely curling attempt into the far corner past the flailing Falcone.

As Sky report, the American’s goal in the eventual 3-0 win broke a very long series of more or less similar goals scored by Milan: 44 goals in a row before his strike had come via shots from inside the penalty area.

In this current season, only three of the 60 goals that Milan have scored have been shots from outside the 18-yard box, which is 5% of the total. Those goals were Pulisic versus Bologna, Ruben Loftus-Cheek against Cagliari and the most recent.

It is clear that Milan prefer to work the ball into the box, with Rafael Leao and now Chukwueze guaranteeing unpredictability, but the two screamers from Pulisic stand as proof that sometimes it doesn’t hurt to just have a crack.
