Manchester United are ready to sign off on a five-year deal for Benjamin Sesko as soon as terms are agreed with RB Leipzig.

The Red Devils, who submitted their opening £73.8 million bid yesterday, have received the full green light from Sesko after he chose them over Newcastle United, who had presented a more lucrative financial proposal to both him and Leipzig.

Their £78.3 million offer was accepted by the German club, but Sesko’s desire to join United has essentially backed Leipzig into a corner to negotiate his move to Old Trafford.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 22-year-old and United have ‘reached a total agreement’ for him to commit his future to the Reds until 2030.

Talks are ongoing between the two sides to hash out the finer details of the transfer, with INEOS ‘pushing’ to finalise everything ‘in the next hours’, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.

Sesko would become Ruben Amorim’s third arrival of the summer, following in the footsteps of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to form a much-needed revamp of a frontline that managed only 44 Premier League goals last term.

Sesko in, Rasmus Hojlund out?

Assuming all is signed and sealed before the end of the week, the Slovenian international will be cleared to make his debut on the opening day of the 2025/2026 campaign at home to Arsenal.

He is being brought in as a direct replacement for the lacklustre Rasmus Hojlund, who turned down the opportunity to join Leipzig in a like-for-like swap deal, having publicly expressed his desire to stay in M16 irrespective of whether another centre-forward is signed this window.

The decision may be taken out of his hands, though, as reports have suggested INEOS will look to shift the former Atalanta star to replenish the transfer kitty.
