Some very positive news via Sky Sports.

Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for the broadcaster and he was at the NUFC training ground today (Wednesday 17 April 2024).

The Sky Sports man reporting from the training ground and indeed publishing a couple of training clips (see below).

The massive positive news is that Callum Wilson is now back in training.

Eddie Howe had said ahead of Saturday’s trouncing of Tottenham that he was hoping to have as many as four players returning from the treatment room very soon, to be competing for a place in the starting eleven.

Tino Livramento was ok to return on Saturday but only for a place on the bench and a late sub appearance. With 11 days between matches he should be fine for Palace next Wednesday AND now amongst those who could be joining him is Callum Wilson.

The club obviously happy for Sky Sports to show this morning that Wilson is back training ahead of the next match, having missed the last two months due to a freak pectoral injury that happened late in the win at Forest in February.

As has been shown previously, having both Alexander Isak AND Callum Wilson available in matchday squads gives Newcastle United so much extra attacking threat.

Especially useful if Newcastle are chasing a game or simply trying to close a win out, usually a fresh Wilson brought on from the bench and able to replace Isak, or play alongside him. A nightmare for defenders.

Yesterday brought the disappointing, along very sensible, news from Sky Sports and others that Joe Willock is set to be rested the remainder of this season, in order to allow his Achilles to fully settle down and try to ensure he is is back to full fitness for next season.

However, with the likes of Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes having returned and impressed, the absence of Willock not felt so keenly.

Great then to see Livramento and now Wilson back amongst it, with everybody waiting in anticipation to see if / when the likes of Joelinton, Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier will be joining them.

As I say, a gap of 11 days between Tottenham and Palace BUT then Palace kicks off six games in the space of three and a half weeks.
