Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff has given his verdict on Wigan Athletic’s latest transfer business.
The Latics have added Ashley Fletcher from Watford on a free transfer to bring some much needed firepower up front to Leam Richardson’s side.
Fletcher became the sixth addition to the squad, alongside fellow forward Nathan Broadhead from Everton.
The Championship club are looking to strengthen in order to maintain their place in the second tier following their promotion in May.
The pundit believes that the two forward additions will prove to be good signings for Richardson’s side.
He also believes that Fletcher’s physical presence upf front could be a very useful tool for the team to have in the squad.
“Yeah, absolutely [good business],” said McAnuff, via Sky Sports.
“I think certainly those forward areas needed strengthening.
“They’ve also brought in Nathan Broadhead who I’m sure you know very well from his time at Sunderland as striker there.
“So, again, for Ashley Fletcher, for a player who hasn’t played a lot certainly in the last couple of years, had a good spell at Middlesbrough, got his move and then certainly from his point of view just hasn’t played enough football.
“I feel [he] would bring a good physical presence.
“I think goal scoring has been a little bit of an issue, certainly for Wigan at the start of the season so those couple of signings in particular will really help that squad.”

Broadhead made his debut for his new club at the weekend as Wigan earned a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol City to maintain the team’s unbeaten start to life back in the second division.
Meanwhile, Fletcher is yet to feature for his new team having arrived from the Hornets last week.
The forward only managed 10 league appearances last season, playing three times for Watford and seven for New York Red Bulls in MLS.
The Verdict
Wigan were lacking options up front so going into the new season it was a must that the team added some new players.
Broadhead performed quite well while on loan with Sunderland last season and has earned the chance to show what he can do in the Championship.
It has been a much more difficult few years for Fletcher, but if he can recapture his good form then he could prove to be a very solid signing for Richardson’s side.
It could be a long season ahead for the Latics as they look to avoid a relegation fight, but these signings should bolster their chances.
