Sky Sports has paid a huge compliment to Southampton striker Adam Armstrong. He is up there with some huge Premier League players.
Adam Armstrong's goal against Everton helped the Saints to their first win of the 2024/25 Premier League season. The goal came late but that only added to the joyous feeling of the Southampton crowd.
However, it is not just goals which the towering forward provides. Indeed, he is a key member of the Southampton squad and some might even say he is simply irreplaceable.
After scoring the important goal against Everton, the compliments came flooding in for Adam Armstrong. However, none will fill him with joy quite as much as one paid to him in a recent Sky Sports article.
Sky Sports recently ran through each Premier League team's most important players. The article was highlighted by Martin Odegaard and Rodri's absences being felt by their respective clubs.
For Southampton, Adam Armstrong was named as the most important player. In fact, the report even claimed that if Armstrong continues his goal-scoring momentum, then Southampton stand a better chance of surviving relegation.
In his own words, Sky Sports journalist Will Rickson said: 'Adam Armstrong... was just another number among the league-high 28 players used so far this campaign. That was until his first Premier League goal of the season... If the 27-year-old striker can continue to show anything like his form from last season, Southampton's survival chances will hugely increase."
While Southampton won't want to place an unhealthy reliance on a singular player, nobody can deny that having Armstrong as the key man for the Saints going forward will only help Russell Martin.
Adam Armstrong is the type of marauding forward who is trusted by the fans and more importantly his teammates. Therefore, he is often central to Southampton's build-up play and he acts as a great anchor in the attack.
One can only hope that Armstrong remains fit throughout the entirety of the season. As a key player in Southampton's promotion bid last season, Armstrong cares about the club and wants the Saints to succeed at any cost.
