Sky Sports expert’s verdict – Interesting on Newcastle United ahead of Burnley match

The Sky Sports column ‘Jones Knows’ has given some interesting analysis and commentary on what is currently the position at Newcastle United.

The column makes predictions on what will happen at certain Premier League matches and also debates other matters / issues at clubs as well.

However, unlike the usual ex-pro predictions, that are usually simply based on how ‘big’ a club is and whether or not they won the previous game, this one has proper analysis and insight, not lazy assumptions.

The Sky Sports ‘Jones Knows’ column looks at the matches from a betting perspective and has been concentrating on this Newcastle United game at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Lewis Jones (who is the Sky Sports expert behind the ‘Jones Knows’ column) has highlighted some major underlying factors that could / should have a big bearing on this Burnley v Newcastle United game.

‘Burnley’s job over the next two games is to keep Nottingham Forest within two points. If they do that then the final-day showdown between the pair at Turf Moor could be a relegation shootout. That would be great fun.

The market is skewed far too in favour of Newcastle here in a game Burnley will be competitive in. The Toon are Evens with Sky Bet for the away win. No thanks.

Vincent Kompany’s men have only lost one of their last eight Premier League games, taking 11 points during that run. It’s kept them alive and kicking. Now they need to turn those draws into wins.

Those that like to play the cards market should be encouraged to take advantage of some fancy prices in the player card options, especially with Anthony Taylor in charge. He’s been dishing out cards like confetti this season – a whopping 120 in 24 matches, which makes him the strictest referee on the Premier League circuit.

Sean Longstaff (13/2 with Sky Bet) and Elliot Anderson (11/2 with Sky Bet) were both booked in the recent 1-0 defeat at Fulham and do look overpriced to go in again.

Score prediction: Burnley 2 Newcastle 1′

A lot of good stuff in there, as usual, when it comes to what the Sky Sports expert says.

However… he fails to mention that over the course of the entire season so far, at Turf Moor they have lost 11 and drawn four, Burnley only winning twice at home, against fellow relegation battlers Brentford and Sheffield United.

Apart from those two exceptions, the other 15 home PL matches have seen Burnley only score 10 goals!

Whilst for Newcastle United, their last ten away matches (all competitions) since New Year’s Day have seen them win six of them.

Also, only the top three have scored more Premier League goals than the 74 Newcastle have managed. If Eddie Howe’s side win 2-0 today, they will have scored exactly twice as many as the 38 Burnley have managed this season.

Burnley will have a right go today as the Sky Sports expert predicts but that should perfectly suit Newcastle, with space to exploit. Only Sheffield have conceded more home goals this season than the 37 Burnley have conceded…
