Sky Sports pundit and EFL expert Clinton Morrison has exclusively shared both his League Two promotion predictions and due praise to Walsall boss Mat Salder to Football League World.

The Saddlers are on course to lift the League Two title at a canter this term, having enjoyed breathtaking form to date. After 25 matches, Walsall have accumulated an imperious 12-point margin over second-placed Crewe Alexandra and, at this stage, it would require something extraordinary for the West Midlands outft to be knocked off their perch.

That leaves a host of teams in the mix vying for promotion in what could promise to be an exhilarating finale to the campaign, with just ten points separating Port Vale in third from tenth-placed Chesterfield.

The race for both automatic promotion, of which three teams will gain come May, and particularly the four play-off slots, is sure to remain hotly-contested and richly-exciting, and Morrison has predicted two of the three available sides to likely join Walsall in League One next time out.

Clinton Morrison's League Two promotion prediction

Unsurprisingly, Morrison believes Walsall are nailed-on to romp to the title.

However, he has predicted both Port Vale and Notts County to remain in the mix as strong promotion contenders, with the latter backed to launch a late surge in their own pursuit of League One football for the first time in a decade.

Morrison also fancies a real surprise in the promotion race, with League Two's top-end seldom failing to throw up a shock or two - as we saw with both Stockport County and Crawley Town's third-tier ascensions just last season.

Speaking exclusively to FLW on behalf of Free Bets, Morrison said: "Walsall will run away with it, I look at teams like Port Vale who should be there or thereabouts and will be in the mix.

"Then someone like a Notts County, I think they’ll come in late as they’ve got so much quality in players like David McGoldrick.

"They’ve got so much quality that I think they could make a late run into it but there is always one team in League Two that surprises you."

Morrison also took time to heap praise on Walsall, who he believes have been a surprise package this term in the manner in which they're edging closer to the title. The 45-year-old played alongside current boss Sadler at Birmingham City between 2002 and 2005 and has been taken aback by the success the side are enjoying under his tuition.

Remarkably, the Saddlers had not recorded a single finish inside the top-seven since their relegation from League One in 2019, but they have managed to take the division by storm this term.

Walsall are currently enjoying a nine-match winning streak in league action, despite recently losing top scorer Nathan Lowe after he was recalled by parent club Stoke City, and they will have every intention of maintaining that run when they travel to play-off hopefuls Bradford for their next encounter on Saturday afternoon.

"You always think to yourself who that could (surprise package) be and Walsall have been the biggest surprise," Morrison continued.

"I have to say a special mention to Mat Sadler because I played with him at Birmingham and if you asked me then would he have become a manager, I would’ve said absolutely no chance.

"He was quiet and didn’t really say anything when we were in the dressing room, but I don’t think many people say a lot in the dressing room when I’m there because I’ve got the biggest mouth!

"But he’s done a great job and this is why everyone likes the EFL because you can’t say for certain who is going to get promoted and relegated. One thing I know is Walsall will 100 per cent get promoted, but with the other teams, everyone is still in the mix to go up and that’s why the EFL is so exciting this season."
