AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has made the technical decision to leave Alessio Romagnoli out of his starting XI to face Roma, a journalist has confirmed.

According to Sky Italia reporter Peppe Di Stefano (via MilanNews), the choice of Pioli is not ‘incredible’ choice nor a ‘huge rejection’ but a ‘choice due to a moment of poor form’ and great performances from Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori.

Romagnoli has never been involved in the rotation policy because, apart from when he was injured, he has always played.

The last time the Italian was left on the bench in the league dates back to three and a half years ago, back in the 2017-18 season when Vincenzo Montella was the head coach and Yonghong Li and Marco Fassone were in charge.

Montella chose to leave Romagnoli on the bench by deploying the defensive tandem Musacchio-Bonucci. The Rossoneri were outclassed 4-1, with a hat-trick from Ciro Immobile.
