AC Milan have already made the goalkeeping hierarchy clear to new signing Antonio Mirante after he joined earlier today.

On their official website, the Rossoneri released a statement in which they confirmed the signing of Mirante on a one-year deal. The 38-year-old veteran left Roma in the summer and has been a free agent since.

Manuele Baiocchini spoke to Sky (via MilanLive) immediately after the news broke that Mirante had joined and he confirmed that the hierarchies between the posts will not be changed. Ciprian Tatarusanu will remain Stefano Pioli’s first choice in goal with Mike Maignan out injured.

The Romanian was named second in command and will now inherit the spot from Maignan out of respect for the roles decided at the beginning of the season.

“Tatarusanu will be the first Milan goalkeeper, we can confirm this. It is also a question of fairness as the Romanian was Mike Maignan’s second. Then it is clear that the hierarchies can change over time: if Tatarusanu does not do well Mirante would be ready to play his cards. Milan took Mirante precisely because he is a highly experienced goalkeeper,” Baiocchini said.

Mirante has 444 professional appearances to his name with 368 of those matches in Serie A, conceding 591 goals conceded and 135 clean sheets.
