Chelsea are amongst the clubs still in the race for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres according to reports.
The Blues are braced for another busy summer with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.
It’s thought the Blues could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players, with a number of players in the squad now surplus to requirements.
A striker is the main priority and the Blues have paid the price for not signing an alternative to Nicolas Jackson both last summer and in January.
The two standout strikers on the market are Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, and supporters would love to see either number nine arrive.
Gyokeres is having another outstanding season and has scored 52 goals and registered 12 assists in 48 appearances, whilst it was reported the club recently held talks with his entourage.
It appears Chelsea and Sporting have a good relationship with the Blues agreeing deals in March to sign Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo, and that could possibly help them in the race for Gyokeres.
Gyokeres and Osimhen are the top strikers available this summer.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has now provided an update on the future of the 26-year-old, who has a whole host of club’s after him.
He took to X.com and said:
“Andrea #Berta is pushing to sign Viktor #Gyökeres for Arsenal. Several talks have already taken place.
“Alexander Isak remains high on the Gunners’ list, as previously revealed — but he’s very expensive. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are all in the race.
“No commitments yet. Everything is still open. Bayern are currently out — too expensive. As exclusively revealed in October, Gyökeres can leave Sporting this summer for €60–70 million, due to a verbal agreement between the player and the club.”
If the Blues fail to land Gyokeres they do have alternative targets and have been strongly linked with Liam Dealp.
Bundesliga duo Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike are said to also be on the shortlist, but a move for Osimhen appears unlikely.

The Nigerian has a release clause of around £65m, but it’s been reported the feeling amongst Premier League clubs is he ends up in Saudi Arabia.
Whoever Chelsea sign it’s vital they make the right decision because if they get it wrong it could set them back next season and beyond.
