Real Madrid have had a mixed start to the 2024-25 season. Although they remain unbeaten in La Liga with seven wins and three draws from their first 10 games, their performance has not quite reached the high standards expected of them.

This start has secured them 24 points, which puts them in second place, three points behind Barcelona.

Now, as they prepare for a critical clash on Saturday, Real Madrid are well aware that a loss would widen the gap, giving Barcelona an early advantage in the title race.

However, Real Madrid can approach this game with confidence, having defeated Barcelona in their last four encounters across all competitions.

Adding to the excitement, Real Madrid have several players who could make their debut in this intense rivalry. Alongside two reserve goalkeepers, some players are set to play their first Clasico.

A look at the players

Kylian Mbappe, a familiar name in world football, has faced Barcelona before with Paris Saint-Germain.

However, this will mark his first Clasico since joining Real Madrid, and his presence is expected to bring an added threat to the team’s attack.

Arda Guler, the young Turkish attacking midfielder, joined Real Madrid last season but missed out on all three Clasicos due to injuries.

If he features in this game, it will be his first taste of this fierce rivalry, and he will aim to make an impression with his creative play.

Furthermore, Endrick could make his Clasico debut from the bench. Still in his early career, this match would offer a huge stage for him to showcase his skills and gain valuable experience against top opponents.

Additionally, despite being with Real Madrid for several seasons, centre-back Jesus Vallejo is yet to experience a Clasico. Should he play, it would mark a significant moment for him, potentially reinforcing the team’s defence in this high-stakes encounter.

Lastly, Real Madrid’s reserve goalkeepers, Fran Gonzalez and Sergio Mestre, have been included in the squad for the Clasico.

However, it is unlikely they will get minutes as Andriy Lunin will start in the event of Thibaut Courtois’ injury.
