Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s right-hand man, Sir Dave Brailsford, is reportedly the man who has been tasked with ensuring Manchester United’s summer transfer plans pan out as desired.

Since Ratcliffe completed his 27.7% partial investment into the club in February, Brailsford has been playing a key role in INEOS’ thorough audit of the club in an effort to identify areas of improvement.

In addition to holding meetings with the players, coaching staff and other club employees, Brailsford has been regularly spotted at United games during a tumultuous season for the club.

He accompanied Ratcliffe at Old Trafford on Sunday as United suffered a 14th Premier League defeat at the hands of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Brailsford is set to take a step back from the Red Devils. It was stated that the cycling chief is keen on returning to his former base in Monaco as this will allow him to have more involvement with OGC Nice, a club also owned by Ratcliffe.

However, in a fresh twist, The Daily Mail now state that in the meantime Brailsford will continue to wield major influence at United as he’s spearheading the 20-time English champions’ movements in the market.

“Sir Dave Brailsford is at the heart of executing Manchester United’s summer transfer plans amid the delayed arrival of two key executives.”

“Brailsford – who has a successful history in cycling – has been thrust to the forefront of the club’s recruitment strategy; engaging in talks with external parties, including club representatives and agents, with a view to attracting the key targets identified by United ahead of next season.”

“The club are still without incoming chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director-in-waiting Dan Ashworth, a delay that has seen Brailsford’s involvement heightened ahead of the summer window.”

Mail Sport note that Brailsford regularly holds face-to-face and telephone conversations with relevant parties in preparation for a busy transfer window for United. It will be the first for the club under the new INEOS regime.

The newspaper also mentions, “Sources insists Brailsford’s involvement is as a representative of the club’s ownership and board, with his particular role in recruitment discussions purely aimed at selling INEOS long-term vision for the club rather than any involvement in thrashing out the financial side of deals.”

The expectation is that Brailsford will proceed to take a more withdrawn role as soon as Omar Berrada and Ashworth are through the door.

Berrada’s gardening leave ends in July while Ashworth took Newcastle to arbitration to force through a switch to Ten Hag’s side.
