Whether you’re a Manchester United supporter or not, you have to admit this is truly astonishing from the club’s legendary manager.

Last year it was revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson had suffered a brain haemorrhage and was being treated in the Emergency ward at the Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals.

Thankfully the 77-year-old made a full recovery and has since been spotted watching his beloved United at Old Trafford.

But as a thank you to the National Health Service doctors and nurses that helped him during his illness, Sir Alex did something extraordinary over the weekend.

The Daily Record have revealed that the Scot organised a charity event which helped raise €450,000, with every single penny going back to the NHS.

Top prize was lunch with Ferguson and Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp, which reportedly sold at auction for €120,000.

One source told the Record: “Alex was in great form all night and had his guests in stitches with his stories.

“It raised a lot of money and Alex was determined that all of it should go to the NHS. He’s always been a great supporter and that’s become even more the case since his health issues last year.”
