Sir Alex Ferguson joined Manchester United training on Tuesday amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t The Mirror), Sir Alex Ferguson and former Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards were present at Carrington to discuss the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils boss has come under increased pressure ever since his side were thrashed 5-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool. It was a shock at how low the club had stooped, especially after former managers also avoided such disastrous results.

Ferguson in fact, used to take pride over games against The Reds and always wanted to get one over them but was dismayed by the performance he saw on Sunday from the director’s box.

Solskjaer has been entrusted to lead the team against Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend, but his job is not completely safe as the club are still considering alternatives. It was said that Ed Woodward and Richard had an urgent talk with Joel Glazer on Monday to discuss the next plan of action.

It is now thought that Ferguson has had a role to play in this meeting, but there was no clear explanation for his presence at Carrington on Tuesday, as his Norwegian disciple conducted an early morning training session.

The former Old Trafford outfit boss is apparently keen on Solskjaer keeping his job, while Woodward is also said to be favouring the same decision. However, the final decision will be made by Joel Glazer.

Antonio Conte has been touted as a possible option to take over the helm, but ‘various figures’ at the club are reluctant to make that move.

Regardless, some tough decisions will have to be made soon, especially if the poor performances continue in the coming weeks.
