Eupen travel to Sint-Truiden on Friday night hoping to build on their recent win over Charleroi. The Pandas, led by former Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt, ended a seven game losing streak with their 2-0 victory. For Sint-Truiden under Thorsten Fink, they host the east Belgian side after a 2-1 win over RWDM that ended a run of four games without a win.
During the week, Eupen were knocked out by second tier side Oostende in the cup, while Sint-Truiden needed extra time to beat Francs Borains, also in the second tier. Historically, the teams have an even record. Sint-Truiden have won nine of their meetings, while Eupen have won 10. Nine of their games have been draws. In their last two meetings, the away side won. Eupen won 1-0 on the 2nd of October last year, while Sint-Truiden won 2-0 on the 14th of January 2023.
Aboubakary Koita is the main man for the Canaries, with eight goals from 12 matches. Jarne Steuckers is also one to watch, as he has created the most chances in the league this season and has three assists. Eupen’s 16 goals have come by committee, with Isaac Nuhu leading the way with three. Gary Magnee has shown some creative spark this season, with three assists and two goals in 11 games. The 24-year-old is just one goal behind his tally for last season, while also having one more assist than he did last season.
Three points for Eupen will see them go level with Sint-Truiden on 16, who sit just one spot above them in ninth. Sint-Truiden could climb all the way up to seventh to start the weekend if they manage to win.
