According to Foot Mercato, Ivorian centre-back Sinaly Diomandé (22) is set to leave Lyon in January, following a highly criticized start to the season. The player has been excluded from the group by interim manager Pierre Sage.
The 22-year-old had joined the club back in 2019 from Malian club Guidars FC, having a promising first season the following year where he started 10 games, playing alongside the likes of Jason Denayer (28) and Marcelo (26) at the time. Diomandé has stood out by his defensive rigidity and efficiency in aerial duels.
However, since then, the centre-back has struggled to make considerable improvements in his game, never fixing his errors in distribution for example, and seeming less and less reliable defensively. During the four seasons he spent at the club, Diomandé always remained the third or fourth option in his position, even being used at right-back at times, but never becoming an essential part of the starting XI.
A move away would undoubtedly be best for both parties, as the Ivorian could search for a club where he could get consistent game time, and flourish as a player. At the same time, Lyon could replace him with a starter-potential player that they so desperately need.
Stade Rennais and RB Salzburg are reportedly among clubs which could potentially be interested in picking up the player.
