Championship strugglers Hull City took another small step towards safety last night as they secured an impressive 1-0 away win at Cardiff City.

A corner-kick routine in the 15th minute was the difference between the two sides on the night despite the hosts’ dominance of possession, with George Honeyman’s set-piece being headed on by Ryan Longman for Keane Lewis-Potter to head in from close range.

In a game where the Tigers didn’t have the likes of Lewie Coyle, Di’Shon Bernard, Alfie Jones or Josh Emmanuel available, suffering a major injury crisis at the back, their clean sheet was arguably the most impressive aspect of their performance as they stood up well to the Bluebirds’ 14 shots.

Quiz: 30 questions about Hull City’s best strikers from the last 5 years – Can you score 30/30?

Goalkeeper Nathan Baxter had his fair share of praise after yesterday evening’s fixture in the Welsh capital, being a brick wall and playing his part in taking the East Yorkshire outfit three points clear of the relegation zone and up to 19th in the table.

But centre-back Jacob Greaves was also lauded for his contribution as he performed admirably alongside the likes of Sean McLoughlin and Callum Elder at the heart of defence, helping Grant McCann’s men to keep their third consecutive clean sheet after 2-0 wins against Barnsley and Birmingham City either side of the international break.

The 21-year-old started in all three of these matches, proving to be particularly vital last night in the face of major defensive injury worries and standing up to the task of facing Welsh international Kieffer Moore who scored 20 Championship goals last term.

With another clean sheet in the bag, we take a look at how some Hull fans reacted to their star central defender’s performance.
