Simone Magill nominated for player of the month award

This week has been one that Simone Magill won’t forget in a hurry as she helped Northern Ireland qualify for their first ever major Women’s tournament.

Magill netted the winner in Kovalivka as Northern Ireland took a 2-1 win away from Ukraine. She then played the full 90 minutes as Kenny Shiels’ troops achieved the unthinkable with a 2-0 win over their opponents at Seaview on Tuesday.

On their way to the Euros, the Magherafelt native scored one of the most pivotal goals away in Wales in the 2-2 draw. She also netted twice in the 6-0 away win against the Faroe Islands.

However, it’s the 26-year-old’s club form for Everton that is receiving recognition. The PFA has nominated Magill for their Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month award for March.

An impressive league display

Magill has scored six goals in the Women’s Super League this season as the Toffees currently sit fifth in the table on 31 points.

She also played a major part in Everton reaching the delayed 2019/20 FA Cup final as she struck in the semi-final against Birmingham City to set them on their way to a 3-0 victory.

The striker started two of Everton’s four games in March but came off the bench against Manchester City and Birmingham City.

During the month, she found the back of the net twice in the games against Brighton and Birmingham City. She also netted in the opening WSL game of April, as Willie Kirk’s side saw off Aston Villa 3-1.

Everton’s number 10 received the nomination alongside the two top goalscorers in the league. Arsenal’s Dutch superstar Vivianne Miedema and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr both have 17 goals to their game this season.

The other nominees include Arsenal’s Caitlin Foord, who has ten goals this season, Brighton’s Inessa Kaagman and Magill’s Everton teammate Hayley Raso.

Everton are back in action this Sunday (April 18) against Durham in the FA Women’s Cup.
