Inter coach Simone Inzaghi certainly had his team back in business in their 1-0 win over Barcelona yesterday evening, even if this was largely a matter of spirit and intensity rather than style of play.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who suggest that the coach reignited the team mentally and in terms of sacrifice even if they’re still not at the peak of their powers in terms of the level of play.

Inter’s performance against the Blaugranas was not one of great technical precision, as the strike into the bottom corner from Hakan Calhanoglu which saw them score the game’s only goal in the first half was the one moment of real quality in the final third.

Missed final balls saw a number of promising situations fall apart, whilst the defensive posture adopted particularly in the second half was not exactly in line with the tactical vision of Inzaghi who wants his team to build play methodically, press high, and control the tempo.

However, on the night Inter didn’t need to be at their peak technically or stylistically, as against this particular opponent a performance of grit and intensity was called for, and that is exactly what the team produced.
