Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi could seek an exit from San Siro in the summer, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Inzaghi has come under scrutiny following an underwhelming campaign in Serie A, although he has exceeded expectations in the Champions League.

The Italian deserves credit for leading the Nerazzurri to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but there is a gulf between the performances in the continental competition and Serie A.

Inter fell short against Juventus in the derby over the weekend, marking their ninth defeat in Serie A this season.

The Scudetto is out of their reach, with Napoli sitting 19 points clear at the top.

Inter’s recent struggles also indicate their place in the top four is not guaranteed, and they need to be at their best for the remaining games to avoid such a scenario.

Di Marzio told TuttoMercatoWeb that the Nerazzurri and Inzaghi could part ways in the summer, regardless of how far the club goes in the Champions League.

The Italian transfer expert also added that Thiago Motta is a leading candidate for the managerial job if the former Lazio boss leaves this summer.

Motta has been doing an impressive job with Bologna, amassing great results against Inter and Lazio in Serie A in recent weeks.

Several top European clubs are keeping close tabs on him, including Inter and Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are looking for a new manager in the summer after being disappointed with Christophe Galtier’s reign this season.

Inzaghi will look to take advantage of the international break as breathing space and bounce back stronger against Fiorentina on April 1.
