Simon Terodde was left struggling to voice his feelings after Friday’s (29/4) last-minute 2-1 win in Sandhausen. After scoring the winning goal, the striker was asked to share his thoughts on the game during a post-match interview with Sky, but couldn’t get the words out.

Terodde had left everything out on the pitch, having been in constant communication with his teammates before loudly celebrating his winning goal afterwards – so much so, that he lost his voice!

“Incredible, just incredible,” was what the 34-year-old had to say just minutes after the final whistle had blown, after processing what had just happened. Terodde’s late goal helped the Royal Blues pick up crucial points on the road in the race for promotion, while his brace also took him onto 27 goals this season. “I had to first come to grips with what had just happened here,” Terodde said about the game.

The travelling support from Gelsenkirchen also helped create a great atmosphere in Sandhausen. “I was already blown away before kick-off. It definitely felt like a home game in Sandhausen. What a game,” Terodde enthused. “The atmosphere our fans created here today was incredible. Their support was what pushed us on to get the win today. On behalf of the entire team, I want to say ‘thank you’ to them again. As a footballer, nights like these are ones you won’t ever forget.”

After Terodde put the Royal Blues ahead in the 71st minute, Sandhausen were able to draw level in the 83rd minute through Denis Diekmeier. “It’s never easy when you concede with just seven minutes left to play. Other teams might struggled to come back from something like that,” Terodde said. “But, we believed in ourselves and were rewarded in the end.”

Once again, it was Blendi Idrizi who had a hand in the decisive goal, just like he did in injury time against Heidenheim three weeks ago. “All of a sudden, the ball was between my legs and I just poked it over the line,” said Terodde. “That set off a flood of emotions within the entire team, the coaching staff and the fans. Amazing. I nearly ran out of the stadium, that’s how happy I was!”

Despite the excitement over the win, the team remain focused on their remaining games this season. “We need to bring the same passion and energy to the game against FC St. Pauli,” said Terodde. The Royal Blues can undoubtedly count on the support from the fans to push them on to victory next weekend again – by which time the striker will hopefully have gotten his voice back.
