Tottenham Hotspur suffered their 14th Premier League defeat of the 2024-25 campaign at the hands of Manchester City last night and will not be playing in Europe next season unless they experience a huge upturn in form and fortune sooner rather than later.

Spurs narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last term and were expected to go one better this season, but injuries have not helped manager Ange Postecoglou and he will be desperate to improve his squad depth in the summer.

The North Londoners need to make quality recruitment to boost their chances of winning a major trophy anytime soon, and Simon Jordan believes they may need to spend around £300 million to have a squad capable of challenging for the English top-flight.

“Certainly, if (Harry) Kane decided to return to his country next season with a £54million buy-out clause there to be activated, joining Arsenal would be a more sensible decision than returning to Tottenham,” the former Crystal Palace chairman told the Daily Mail.

“Who need another £300m spent on players to become realistic challengers, something that is very unlikely to happen under the current ownership.”

Unfortunately, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not ready and willing to bring out the cheque book anytime soon to ensure the best players are signed, and Postecoglou will have to keep making one or two top additions every window.

They are the most profitable club in the history of the Premier League, they have the best stadium in the land and also have the lowest wages-to-turnover ratio, but they have to be willing to splash the cash if they want to win their first trophy since 2008 anytime soon.

They could do with new owners right now and the fans will be desperately hoping a takeover happens as it could be the only thing that gets them winning silverware again.
