Former Sunderland boss Simon Grayson has given his verdict on the potential pursuit of Reims Will Still as Micheal Beale's replacement.

The Black Cats are once again searching for a new head coach following the decision to part ways with Beale earlier this week.

The 43-year-old lasted just 63 days in charge of the Wearside outfit before being sacked, having replaced Tony Mowbray in December.

Still was one of the other names linked with potentially replacing Mowbray at the time, but a deal failed to materialise.

It has been reported that Sunderland are interested in the young, up-and-coming coach and could make a fresh approach to appoint him in the summer.

Grayson: Will Still would be “an interesting appointment” at Sunderland

Grayson has praised the work Still has done during his time in France with Ligue 1 side Reims but has questioned whether he would make the move from top flight football to the Championship.

The former Sunderland boss believes there is a lot of pressure on the club to get this appointment right after the disappointment of Beale.

“It would be an interesting appointment,” Grayson told FLW, via Instant Casinos.

“It’s a remarkable story for him.

“He’s taken over there and was still working towards his full qualifications to justify him being there.

“He’s had a great run of results and I’m sure he will be linked with other clubs again.

“It’s a difficult one for him, does he want to leave the French top division to come to the Championship in England?

“The biggest thing for Sunderland is that they have to get this appointment right.

“The people who have made this decision with Michael Beale will be looking back and thinking it hasn’t worked out and that they’re culpable for it because they made the appointment.

“They’ve now got to get it right, whether it’s a young, up-and-coming coach who has got some experience, or a more experienced manager who has got a few more games under his belt in the Premier League or Championship or wherever.

“It will be really interesting to see where Sunderland are going to go with this one.”

Micheal Beale's Sunderland record

Dodds has been placed in charge of the Black Cats following Sunderland’s dismissal of Beale.

Beale oversaw just 12 games in charge, winning only four, with defeats to Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City ending his reign.

Dodds previously managed three games as interim manager in December, winning two, and will now take the reins until the end of the campaign.

Will Still has a lot of potential

If Still is willing to make the switch to the Stadium of Light, then that could be a very exciting appointment for Sunderland.

He is a promising, upcoming coach that now has a lot of top flight experience as a manager for someone still just 31.

He has earned a lot of praise for his work in France and has Reims challenging for European qualification.

Still revealed recently that a Championship job is something that interests him but whether that means he'd be open to heading to the Stadium of Light in the summer remains to be seen.

Sunderland do need to get this next appointment right if they are to compete for Premier League promotion, and they cannot afford another mistake like Beale, and Still might just be the man to bring this team forward.
