Simon Grayson believes the Championship promotion race is set to go all the way until the final day of the season for Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and a Southampton side who have clawed their way back into the mix.

Grayson himself has had success as a manager in the EFL previously, and is no stranger to promotion, having joined Leeds as manager midway through the 2008/09 League One season from Blackpool.

He would lose out in the play-offs during his first campaign but secured the club's return to the Championship by finishing second in the following year to put an end to the Whites' three-year stint in the third tier.

The race to gain promotion is into the final three weeks and the very thick of the run-in, with four sides fighting it out for two spots in the top four, where Grayson's former side currently sit third behind their rivals.

However, there are bound to be many twists and turns at the top, with the top two places likely to change multiple times before the final games, in part due to Leicester and Southampton having games in hand, whilst Kieran McKenna's Ipswich side have defied the odds and are aiming for back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna.

Speaking to Betway, Grayson was asked if he believes promotion to the Premier League will be decided on the final day, and he is expecting things to go the distance between every side involved.

"Absolutely. There are no easy games and with the results over the past few weeks, I expect twists and turns right until the final whistle of the season.

"Leeds have got two away games coming up with Middlesbrough and QPR and then finish with Southampton, who themselves are not out of the automatic picture.

"They go to Leicester as well as Leeds in the remaining weeks, so they have it all to do. "Leicester have West Brom and Southampton at home, which won’t be easy, but you would prefer to play at home than away.

"It's who holds their nerve best that will come out on top. That's the beauty of the Championship and the play-offs, and it’s better to sit and watch than be part of it."

No matter what the 'supercomputers' try to tell you, there is plenty to play for in the race for Premier League promotion, with sides playing before others in the race and thus able to apply pressure at the top.

It's difficult to envisage a world where the final day doesn't have some say on at least two teams in the race, and possibly all four, given that Ipswich, Leicester, and Leeds have all been picking up points at a lower rate in recent weeks post-international break.
