Napoli forward Giovanni Simeone is one of five strikers who have already been linked with a potential move to Genoa to replace Italy international Mateo Retegui, who had a medical with Atalanta on Thursday morning.

Genoa approach Napoli for Simeone

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Genoa have already been in contact with Napoli to discuss the possibility of signing Simeone ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

As it stands, Napoli are not willing to let the 29-year-old leave on loan, but that would currently be the ideal scenario for Genoa.

Simeone, who netted 12 league goals from 35 appearances for Genoa in the 2016-17 season, has two seasons remaining on his current deal with the Partenopei, set to expire in the summer of 2026.

Correa, Miovski and other early options

Elsewhere on the list of possible Retegui replacements is Inter forward Joaquin Correa. The 29-year-old spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan in France with Marseille, but his time in San Siro now looks to be over.

Though he was given a run-out in Inter’s pre-season friendly against Al-Ittihad on Wednesday night, he was met with boos and whistles when he was subbed off midway through the second half.

Another name that has been linked with a move to Genoa is Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski. The North Macedonia international bagged 16 league goals from 38 outings in the Scottish Premiership last term.

Monza veteran Milan Djuric is also a possibility. Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic has been mentioned as well, but he is likely to cost more than Genoa would ideally like to spend.
