Liverpool look to have set their sights on signing Monaco's 22-year-old French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Liverpool are looking to sign Tchouameni in the upcoming transfer window.

Tavolieri told LFC Transfer Room: "Aurelien is one of the biggest priorities of the scouting staff of Liverpool."

Speaking in his monthly column for Anfield Watch, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Liverpool have been working on a deal to sign the 22-year-old.

Romano said that Tchouameni is being monitored by Liverpool. The Reds have had conversations with the agent of the Monaco midfielder.

However, the €45 million price tag - set last summer - is no longer valid. A far higher offer will be needed to lure Tchouameni away from France.

Despite being heavily linked with a move to Anfield, the Reds aren't the only top European side interested in making a move for the 22-year-old.

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have all been mentioned as potential destinations for the French midfielder.

As Romano said, it's going to take more than the €45 million that was quoted for Tchouameni last summer. Recent reports have claimed that Monaco would accept a fee closer to €60 million.

In a recent interview, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Tchouameni's former teammate, Cesc Fabregas, said that he'd like to see the French midfielder play for Liverpool in the future.

“I would like to see (Youssouf) Fofana, (Sofiane) Diop or Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!"

With James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's future at Liverpool both in doubt, Tchouameni would be the perfect replacement for them.

He is young, but he already has so much experience playing for a top team in European competitions.

Whether Liverpool complete the signing this summer is still uncertain but it seems that there is genuine interest from Jurgen Klopp's side.
