Hull City have not signed Xavier Simons on a permanent basis, according to Baz Cooper.

It was reported on deadline day that the Tigers had come to an agreement with Chelsea over a permanent deal for the 19-year old.

The youngster had received attention from a number of Championship clubs, but Hull had seemingly won the race to his signature.

But instead, he is set to remain at the MKM Stadium for the remainder of this season as part of his initial loan deal that was agreed with the Premier League side last summer.

Simons arrived last summer but has not featured much in the team under either Shota Arveladze or Liam Rosenior.

The Englishman has made just two league appearances in the second tier, both of which came as a substitute.

But Rosenior has high hopes for the youngster and sees a lot of potential in his ability, so was keen to tie him down to a longer-term deal with the club.

Despite coming to an agreement with Chelsea, it appears that the deal did not go through having missed last night’s deadline to complete transfers.

An update is expected from Rosenior in the coming days.

The Verdict

Hull are seemingly not the only club that got burnt by Chelsea last night, with Hakim Ziyech’s move to PSG also collapsing due to a missed deadline.

The Blues’ chaotic pursuit of expensive new players has earned them the ire of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with the Paris side furious with the outcome of the Ziyech deal.

It would be no surprise if Hull felt a similar way given their apparent excitement at securing the future of Simons.
