Signe Bruun is not set to return Manchester United permanently following her loan spell in the WSL last season.

The forward joined Marc Skinner's side from Lyon in January to much excitement, having won the Division One Feminine title with Paris Saint-Germain the previous campaign and been voted the 2021 Denmark Player of the Year.

However, she saw her time in Manchester disrupted by injury, featuring just five times in the WSL and failing to score.

According to the Daily Mail, United had been considering bringing Bruun back to Leigh Sports Village for the 2022/23 season, but she will not be returning.

The 24-year-old is under contract with Lyon until 2023, meaning United would have to pay a fee to secure her services on a permanent basis.

The report adds that Bruun could still be playing her football in the WSL next term, but with a club other than United.

The striker joined Lyon from PSG in the summer of 2021, having netted seven league goals as the Parisians ended Lyon's 14-year stranglehold on the Division One Feminine title.

Bruun was in the stands to watch her parent club Lyon lift the Champions League for the eighth time in their history on Sunday as the French side ran out 3-1 winners over Barcelona.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Danish international admitted she was unsure where she would be playing her football next season.

"Nothing decided yet," Bruun told Sky Sports. "I could see myself going back [to Manchester United], I could see myself staying at Lyon, everything is open."

On her loan spell at United, Bruun added: "It was good, very good, I really enjoyed it. A bit sad that I was injured a lot of the time, that's not how I'd hoped it would be. But a very good experience and I learned a lot from it."
