Tim Sherwood expects Chelsea ace Timo Werner to struggle this season

According to Daily Mail, Tim Sherwood feels that Chelsea ace Timo Werner could end up struggling this season. The former Premier League manager wanted the striker to show the manager that he deserves to be in the starting XI.

Timo Werner arrived in England with a reputation as a regular goalscorer and as an expensive signing. However, his form seemed to have abandoned him and whatever he did, he simply could not buy a goal. Werner was getting close but the finishing he was renowned for, seemed to have just vanished.

The German striker was handed a lot of chances and at times it got close to embarrassing when he kept missing those easy goals. This season Chelsea have brought in Romelu Lukaku to ease those issues. However, Werner is yet to gel with Lukaku and has not even scored once this season when he was somewhat expected to hit the ground running.

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood felt that Werner’s struggles could continue this season but the striker will have to show that he deserves to be in the starting XI.

‘Everyone thought that Timo Werner and Kai Havertz would be nailed on starters for Chelsea because of the German connection. But I think Werner is going to struggle. I think he needs to show the manager that he’s got more than the press, he needs to show some quality. He’s done that in other countries, we saw him as a top scorer in Germany. But we see so many players come over and struggle.’

Tuchel has still been patient with Werner and given him chances to get back to form. The same could be followed this season as well but after a point, it might be difficult to justify his place in the side. Werner will need to find his scoring boot and fast.
