Almere City’s on loan defender Loïc Mbe Soh’s contract is due to expire at the end of this season. The 22-year-old central defender, who began his career in the PSG academy, is on loan at the Eredivisie club from Nottingham Forest. He joined the now Premier League club back in the summer of 2020 for €5m from the Ligue 1 side. During the 2022/2023 season he spent half of it on loan at another French side Guingamp. The former French youth international has only made 13 appearances for Forest since joining them.
This year he has been on loan at Almere City, where he has already played more times than with either Guingamp or Forest. Mbe Soh has made 19 appearances for the club, scoring once and providing an assist. It is unlikely that the defender will get a new contract with the English club in the summer, which means that Almere could look to try and keep him in the Eredivisie next season.
Mbe Soh has started 13 of the 17 matches that he has played this season. His last two performances against PEC Zwolle on the 17th of February and Feyenoord the week after were two of his best this season. While they lost to Feyenoord, they beat Zwolle 1-0. The side do have a number of defenders out of contract in the summer, with Damian van Bruggen and Joey Jacobs on deals that will expire in June 2024.
Obviously it will have to make financial sense for both parties, but given his age, if a deal can be found it could help the young defender gain more playing time and develop further.
