There is a shock new transfer rumour that has surfaced this week as Chelsea are now linked with Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
The news comes after Chelsea went down 2-0 against Newcastle United away from home on Sunday lunch time in a crucial game for the race for Champions League football next season.
Chelsea needed to win this game as much as Newcastle did, but a first half sending off by Nicolas Jackson did not help their cause. Enzo Maresca has admitted that Jackson now needs to learn from this situation moving forward.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher now believes that Chelsea have a big problem after this defeat with just two games remaining of the season and the reality being that The Blues need two wins to guarantee a place in the Champions League for next season.
The summer transfer window opens next month and these times of the year are often referred to as ‘silly season’ due to the mad amount of vast rumours we start hearing about.
We are going to be hearing a lot about Chelsea’s transfer plans now because they are expected to be very busy again during the two summer transfer windows we will have.
Chelsea have set their sights on signing Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa as Enzo Maresca is keen to strengthen his defensive unit this summer.
That is according to former Man United and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown, who apparently remains very well-connected within the game.
“Chelsea certainly view Ezri Konsa as an option,” he told Football Insider.
“He has progressed his game further in the last couple of years than I ever thought he would.
“I still think he makes some mistakes, but he’s done an exceptional job to make himself a regular both for Aston Villa and recently for England.
“He’s made the very best of the assets he has got.
“Chelsea have got a problem at centre-back and they’re prepared to bring somebody in.
“That’s going to be one of their priorities in the transfer window.
“They need a solid option at the back who is going to give them consistent performances, and they’ve been looking at Konsa on a number of occasions.
“So it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them make a move for him.”
