Sheyi Ojo appears to have suggested that he will not be returning to Cardiff City next season.

The winger joined Cardiff on loan from Liverpool back in the summer transfer window, and went on to score five goals and provide seven assists in 41 appearances for the Bluebirds.

That wasn’t quite enough to help the club from the Welsh capital secure a place in the play-offs this season, as Cardiff eventually finished the campaign eighth in the Championship table.

Did these 18 players make more or less than 100 Cardiff appearances?

Now it seems as though Ojo is not expecting to be back in the Welsh capital next season, judging by his latest social media post.

Taking to his Instagram page to reflect on the campaign, Ojo thanked Cardiff supporters for their backing this season, admitting his disappointment at missing out on a play-off place.

The 23-year-old went on to admit that he hopes the club “gets back to where it belongs”, and revealed he will always have “love and respect” for Cardiff, thanks to the people he has met during his time at the club.

Ojo has two years remaining on his contract with parent club Liverpool, and despite several loan moves throughout his career, he has made 13 appearances for the Merseyside club already.

The Verdict

This may be somewhat disappointing from a Cardiff City perspective.

Ojo does have a fairly decent record for them this season, and with Junior Hoilett already on his way out of the club, they may have wanted to keep the Liverpool man around for next season at least, to ensure they are not too short of numbers in the wide areas.

These comments from Ojo however, feel very much like he is bidding farewell to Cardiff, which does indicate that he will not be back in the Welsh capital next season.

But while that may be frustrating for Cardiff, you could understand Ojo’s desire to push for a chance in the Premier League next season, given he is at the age where he will be wanting to make a breakthrough at that level for the good of his career.
