Andriy Shevchenko has made no attempt to hide his love for AC Milan ahead of Wednesday night’s game at the Marassi when he will face his former club as Genoa boss.

Shevchenko had an illustrious 19-year career as a striker for Dynamo Kyiv, Milan, Chelsea and the Ukraine national team. He scored 67 goals in European competitions as well as 176 goals for Milan in all comps, meaning he is the second most prolific player in the history of the club.

The most prestigious award he won individually was the Ballon d’Or in 2004 and he won the UEFA Champions League in 2003 with Milan, but now he has embarked on a coaching career that has already seen him lead his country Ukraine.

Genoa-Milan represents a fundamental match for many reasons with lots of interesting sub-plots involved. It is important that Milan get back up after their two defeats, but if they are to get back to winning ways they will have to get one over on one of the club’s biggest icons in Shevchenko.

“It will be exciting to face Milan, even if I’m trying to hide all the emotions to concentrate on the match. I will do everything to put the Rossoneri in difficulty, I am the coach of Genoa,” Sheva said in his pre-match press conference (via MilanLive).

“It is true that Milan come from two defeats but they are a strong team that creates many chances in every match. The absence of many of our players will weigh heavily. We will try to be compact as we always do, we have to keep this structure. I thank the Genoa fans for their support in this beginning of the adventure, we hope that tomorrow they will be our twelfth man too.”
