Eintracht Women striker Shekiera Martinez has extended her contract by a further two years.

Martinez has signed a new deal until 30 June 2024, becoming the seventh Eagle to have extended her contract this season.

The lively striker joined 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2016 and worked her way from the U17s through the reserves to the first team, for whom she made her debut in February 2018 at the age of just 16. Since then, Martinez, now 20, has scored 18 goals in 64 league appearances. She has also impressed for Germany’s youth teams, representing her country almost 50 times and finishing the 2018 Under-17 European Championship as runner-up and top goalscorer.

Having been hampered by niggling injuries at times, the pacey forward has been a key player this season – her fifth Bundesliga campaign in Frankfurt. With five goals and four assists, she has provided a reliable attacking threat alongside strike partners Lara Prasnikar and Laura Freigang.

“I’m very pleased that Shekiera Martinez is also staying with us,” said sporting director Siegfried Dietrich. “Sheki is a perfect example of the successful Frankfurt way of developing young talents into established Bundesliga players. I’m very glad that we can look forward to more goals from her.”

“I feel extremely happy in Frankfurt and get on very well with the girls on and off the pitch,” commented Martinez. “That’s why I didn’t have to think long about whether to extend my contract. I’m very pleased to remain a part of the Eintracht family.”
