Sheffield Wednesday have a number of injury issues heading into this weekend’s game with MK Dons in League One.

Darren Moore’s side are in a really strong position at the top of League One, sitting second to only Plymouth Argyle and finding themselves six points clear of Bolton Wanderers in third.

What’s added to that positive situation is that a win in their game in-hand would take Sheffield Wednesday back above Plymouth in the table and into the driving seat in the race for the League One title.

MK Dons are down in 20th and, on paper, Sheffield Wednesday should have it within them to pick up a win this weekend.

However, injuries are mounting at Hillsborough.

George Byers is a fresh worry for Sheffield Wednesday this weekend after hobbling out of the midweek win over Morecambe after a knock to his leg. The Sheffield Star detail how that’s believed to be a dead leg.

There are longer-term absentees as well, including Callum Paterson, Michael Ihiekwe and Ben Heneghan. It’s a hamstring injury for Paterson, whilst Ihiekwe and Heneghan are out with long-term knee injuries.

Mallik Wilks will likely be the fifth player definitely out of the MK Dons clash, with Moore confirming a calf injury.

As quoted by Yorkshire Live, Moore said: “It’s his calf. We don’t know, it could be a strain, we don’t think it’s a pull. He seems upbeat and positive and he reported that he didn’t feel that much effect in his body and that’s a positive sign.”

Jack Hunt hasn’t been involved against Ipswich Town and Morecambe in Sheffield Wednesday’s last two fixtures, but was earmarked for a return to training on Thursday (Yorkshire Live). It’s also a case of ‘wait and see’ with Lee Gregory after a recovery from tonsillitis

Dominic Iorfa could’ve been involved against Morecambe but, after a kick to the calf, Moore opted not to risk his centre-back. Like Hunt, the likelihood is, then, that he could return to the fold against MK Dons, as the Owls look for back-to-back wins.

Barry Bannan’s first minute goal and a brace from Josh Windass secured a 3-0 victory over Morecambe on Tuesday night.
