The match officials for Leeds United’s League Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening have been announced, with Robert Jones set to take charge at Hillsborough.

The experienced official has refereed three games so far this campaign, beginning with a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie between Ferencváros and FC Noah before appearing in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.

The Whites have a strong record in their matches overseen by the 38-year-old, winning nine of the 18 fixtures and drawing on five occasions. Most recently, Jones was in the middle of last term’s trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth.

Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, have struggled for form in their matches officiated by Jones, winning just twice in 10 games. Last time out, the Owls drew 2-2 with Millwall midway through the previous campaign.

The Merseyside-based official is no stranger to this fixture, having overseen a 1-1 draw between the sides at Hillsborough back in 2018.

2025/26 stats:

  • Games (all competitions): 3
  • Yellow cards issued: 7
  • Red cards issued: 0

Other match officials selected:

  1. Assistant referees: Nick Greenhalgh & Craig Taylor
  2. Fourth official: Gavin Ward
