Sheffield Wednesday: Josh Windass issues "the best" Danny Rohl claim

Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass has labelled current boss Danny Rohl as "probably the best manager he's ever worked with" after the German boss helped transform the club's fortunes.

The Owls looked dead and buried in October after picking up just two points in their first ten games under Xisco Munoz, but Rohl has helped to give the club a fighting chance of remaining in the division with just a handful of games left, and they have now climbed out of the bottom three of the Championship after a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

If Wednesday win their remaining two games, they will be guaranteed second tier football next season, and that would be an incredible achievement given the fact they were rock bottom prior to Rohl's arrival, with many people expecting the Owls to have been relegated by now.

Even if Rohl is unable to keep the club in the division, he'll still have plenty of credit in the bank and will be likely to attract interest from fellow Championship sides this summer.

Josh Windass has high praise for Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Sheffield Wednesday's attacking midfielder Josh Windass was full of praise for the work Danny Rohl has done since taking over at Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old has been at Wednesday since 2020 and has played for the likes of Rangers, so he is well-placed to discuss the quality of managers he has played under.

Windass said: "It’s been a tough season for everyone, but since Danny’s come in, he’s changed the way we play, and he’s changed the way we all think.

"He’s probably the best coach I’ve ever worked with. I just hope we can finish it off with survival.”

Having worked with a number of different managers at Hillsborough and away from South Yorkshire, this is high praise indeed, and Windass explained why Rohl was the best manager he's ever worked under.

"His detail, and his understanding. Some players may understand things quicker than others and I don’t think he gets frustrated by that, he takes time with each individual, making sure that everyone fully knows what he wants," Windass added.

"Obviously, sometimes it doesn’t work out like that when we go into games and things happen… but usually we go into matches and the game plan he gives us is spot on.

“Since he’s come in I think we’re a mid-table team, which with the group we’ve got is unbelievable. Hopefully we can stay up and Danny can get what he wants, and we can move forward.”

Josh Windass may not be working with Danny Rohl next season

With Josh Windass' contract expiring this summer, it remains to be seen if he'll be a Sheffield Wednesday player next season.

The attacking midfielder was subject to plenty of transfer interest in January with clubs in the MLS and Argentina interested in signing the 30-year-old.

Sky Sports reported in January that Argentine side Club Atlético Talleres were interested in signing Windass this summer, so it remains to be seen if they'll still be interested.

The Athletic's Tom Bogert also reported that two MLS sides were interested in signing the player, as well as two European sides who were looking at signing Windass on a pre-contract ahead of the summer.

Danny Rohl has a conundrum on his hands this summer with a huge number of players out of contract, including Windass, and he faces some big decisions if he remains at Hillsborough as he looks to rebuild his squad.

It's set to be a summer of transition at Sheffield Wednesday, but everyone connected with the club will hope that Rohl is able to secure Championship safety and remains at the club next season.
