Sheffield Wednesday are running the rule over 21-year-old forward Owen Windsor as they look to capitalise on West Bromwich Albion‘s decision to release him earlier this summer, according to a report from the Sheffield Star.
Albion announced in May that Windsor was one of a number of young players that would be leaving The Hawthorns after their contracts had expired and he remains a free agent.
That could all be about to change, however, as the Sheffield Star has reported that the striker is on trial at the League One clkub, who are looking to strengthen the U21s side after an injury to Luke Cook.
Windsor is said to have been involved in the warmup ahead of Neil Thompson’s side’s 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Monday evening – though he did not feature in the game.
The 21-year-old, who is a centre-forward by trade but has played on the flanks previously, did not make a senior appearance in his three years with the Baggies but had three spells on loan at EFL clubs – joining Grimsby Town, Newport County, and Carlisle United.

The Verdict
While supporters may not see the impact of this move at first team level soon, running the rule over Windsor is a positive step and one that could pay dividends further down the line.
The Yorkshire club have seen some of their best young talent poached in recent years so bolstering the youth squads by capitalising on other clubs’ decisions makes a lot of sense.
Supporters will want to see the Owls being proactive and thinking about future talent, which is exactly what they’re doing here.
Thompson and the other U21s coaches will get a chance to run the rule over Windsor before a decision is made.
The young forward will be hungry to prove himself and earn a contract at a big club like Wednesday but it remains to be seen whether he’s able to secure a deal.
