Darren Moore has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday could be set to have all four of Barry Bannan, Callum Paterson, Dominic Iorfa and Massimo Luongo available today for their clash against Huddersfield Town in the League Cup.

Darren Moore’s side get their season underway with a home fixture against Huddersfield in the League Cup, and they will be aiming to try and get their campaign off to a positive start by causing something of a mini upset against the Championship side.

Iorfa has been out of action since suffering a serious Achilles injury back in December that ruled him out for the second half of the campaign last term. While Luongo had been suffering with a knee injury that forced him to miss a large part of the last season for the Owls as well.

Meanwhile, both Bannan and Paterson had missed out on Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season clash against League Two Port Vale.

However, speaking to the Sheffield Star, Darren Moore confirmed that all four players are set to be available for the game against Huddersfield.

He said: “They all came off the pitch after training today, so they should all be fine and well and raring to go.”

The verdict

This is massively encouraging for Sheffield Wednesday and does suggest that Moore is going to have a really strong squad of players to select from today in their clash against Huddersfield. However, with the start of League One campaign coming next week there will need to be caution taken over how much game time to give them in this League Cup tie.

Bannan and Paterson are going to be essential players this season in the third tier and the pair will be go-to players under Moore for leadership and inspiration on the field. It was a concern when they missed the final pre-season friendly but that now does not appear to be something that will prevent them from missing any part of the season.

Iorfa and Luongo returning to fitness is also a major plus for the Owls and the pair will be needing to keep fit for as long as possible this season and look to make up for lost time. Both players should be eased back in really as they are going to be needed down the line for sure in what is sure to be a  long and tough campaign for Sheffield Wednesday.
