As the uncertainty over Danny Rohl's future at Sheffield Wednesday continues, Dejphon Chansiri should look to QPR for a possible solution.

It has been a nightmare start to the summer for Sheffield Wednesday, and with no end to their current problems in sight, the situation at Hillsborough is becoming increasingly concerning.

After a poor second half of the campaign, Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship last season, but the collapse of their play-off push proved to be the least of their problems as off-field issues began piling up.

Having first failed to pay the wages of players on staff on time in March, the same issue occurred again last month, and almost three weeks on from when their salaries were initially due to be paid, some members of the Owls squad are still yet to receive the money they are owed.

With no sign of an imminent end to the wages saga, no pre-season fixtures in place and restrictions on transfers, the off-field situation at Hillsborough could not be more alarming, but there is also plenty of uncertainty on the football side, and Owls supporters are still no clearer about whether manager Danny Rohl will still be in charge next season.

Dejphon Chansiri makes Danny Rohl, Sheffield Wednesday return demand

Doubts over Rohl's long-term future at Wednesday first emerged in December when he was linked with the Southampton job, and he became embroiled in a public dispute with Chansiri during the January transfer window after being denied a move to St Mary's.

Rohl may have remained at Hillsborough on that occasion, but it has not put a stop to the speculation, and he is said to have been on the radar of a number of clubs this summer, including Southampton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Fulham, RB Leipzig, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg.

However, with the new season getting ever closer and more vacancies being filled, it appears that Rohl is running out of possible escape routes, and his high release clause, which is believed to stand at £2 million for Championship clubs and £5 million for those outside the second tier, has been a stumbling block for many of his suitors.

Rohl was reportedly on the final shortlist to replace Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough, but ex-Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is now expected to take over at the Riverside Stadium, and, barring a late approach from Leicester or RB Leipzig, the 36-year-old may be forced to make a humiliating return to South Yorkshire.

With the Owls squad due to begin pre-season training in a matter of weeks, The Sun reported on Sunday that Chansiri has ordered Rohl to cut his summer holiday short and come back to the club to start preparations for the upcoming campaign, and refusal to do so could lead to him being hit with a substantial fine.

Sheffield Wednesday should follow QPR, Marti Cifuentes example with Danny Rohl

Given that he signed a new three-year contract last summer, Rohl will be obligated to oversee pre-season training later this month, but there are big question marks over whether Wednesday should be forcing their wantaway manager to return to the club.

On more than one occasion, Rohl has openly discussed his possible next move this summer, and he revealed his desire to manage in the Bundesliga as soon as possible in his most recent interview with the German press earlier this month, but such comments have seen him burn his bridges with the Owls fan base, many of whom will be reluctant to welcome him back to Hillsborough with open arms.

Rohl's mind is clearly elsewhere, and with many of his coaching staff out of contract and Wednesday unlikely to be in a position to renew their deals given their perilous financial situation, the former Bayern Munich coach continuing in his role is not a sustainable solution.

Given that it is mid-June and the Owls have already fallen well behind their Championship rivals in preparing for the new season, they cannot afford the uncertainty over Rohl's future to drag on for much longer, and another bitter clash between manager and owner is the last thing the troubled club need at this point.

Rather than delaying Rohl's seemingly inevitable departure, Chansiri should follow the example of Queens Park Rangers, who placed head coach Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave in April, just days after it was revealed that his representatives had held talks with West Bromwich Albion.

While the R's are yet to officially conclude their managerial search, the decisive removal of Cifuentes has at least allowed them to get on with finding his replacement, and after reportedly being rejected by ex-Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup, they are believed to be closing in on the appointment of former Strasbourg and Rennes manager Julien Stephan.

In contrast, there is still no clarity on the managerial position at Wednesday, and with Rohl and Chansiri now on a collision course over his potential return to Hillsborough, the club's turbulent summer could be about to take another turn for the worse.
