It shouldn't be too long before we see him back in action in a Wednesday shirt.

Danny Rohl has revealed that he expects Olaf Kobacki to be back in contention for a place in the Sheffield Wednesday matchday squad around Christmas, following his extended absence due to injury.

The 23-year-old summer signing's stop-start beginning to life at Hillsborough can't have been easy for him. He's been out of action since the end of October after he picked up a 'muscle injury' in training, as Rohl put it, just under four months on from his transfer from Arka Gydnia for an undisclosed fee.

Kobacki has started half of the league matches that he has appeared in, and more chances in the Wednesday first-team should be just down the road as he works his way back to fitness.

Danny Rohl provides Olaf Kobacki return timeline update

Rohl has heavily praised the forward for his resilience during this tough period. "Olaf has a strong attitude," claimed the Wednesday manager, via The Star.

"You can expect this from such a player, he has great resilience, he goes through, he works hard. He is now on the pitch and in the next two weeks he will be back in the team training. This gives us a lift.

There is no question mark, he will come back soon. He has a resilience and a character to him. He is ready, he is not a guy who sits to think 'Oh what happens now?' He works hard every day and it is good that he is around us now. You feel he is closer. He is back in every meeting now, he can learn and understand what we do.

On when he expects the Polish forward to be contending for a place in his matchday squad, Rohl said: "This is football, it is about coming back stronger from injuries. I am sure he will come back well. We look now week to week.

"The first step is that he was on the grass, he makes some movements now. I think there will come a day he comes into the matchday plus one training maybe in a smaller group to get some football work. Maybe around the Stoke [City] game, that could be an opportunity for him to come back."

Sheffield Wednesday's recent good run gives them time to slowly work Olaf Kobacki back to full fitness

The worst thing you can do with a young player is overwork them and then give them lingering injury issues for the rest of their career. The 23-year-old's body will still be developing to an extent, so you don't want to rush them back if you don't have to.

Thankfully for Wednesday, because of their recent run of form - three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five, which has taken them to within five points of the play-off places - they won't need to quickly get Kobacki up to speed.

He should be afforded a good amount of time to be able to get right before being reintroduced into the matchday squad.
