Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass is one of multiple Owls players drawing interest from the Championship but no players are expected to leave the League One club today, according to The Sheffield Star.

Windass has been in fantastic form since the start of 2023 – scoring five goals and providing one assist in five games – and is once again turning heads in the second tier.

According to a report from The Sheffield Star, there is interest in the Owls forward from Championship clubs once again.

However, it is said that there has been no firm contact as of yet and that it remains unlikely he will leave.

The 29-year-old’s Wednesday contract is up in the summer but it is thought the South Yorkshire club do have the option of triggering an extension – though the exact terms of such a clause remain unclear.

The report claims that at least two of Windass’ teammates are drawing admiring glances from the Championship as well but they’re not expected to depart either.

Darren Moore’s side are second in League One as things stand – four points clear of Ipswich Town in third and three back from leaders Plymouth Argyle but with a game in hand over both their promotion rivals.

The Verdict

Given the form he’s been in since the turn of the year, and in the 2022/23 campaign, it’s no surprise that there is interest in Windass on deadline day.

His contract is up in the summer and Championship clubs will likely be keen to capitalise but it seems Wednesday are protected by the extension clause in the deal.

Losing him at this stage would be a real blow so it’s good news that it appears the forward and his teammates that have caught the eye are unlikely to depart.

Things can change quickly on deadline day, though!
